This is one of the preliminary results of Project Diogenes (Diet, obesity and genes), conducted among families of 8 countries (Denmark, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Bulgaria, Greece, Czech Republic, Germany and Spain), informed the Spanish University of Navarra , who participated in the study.

The research concludes that “increasing the intake of protein in the diet prevents weight regain after thinning, while the glycemic index of food related sugars does not play an important role.

For six months were followed to adult participants, who were required to lose at least 8 percent of their weight before the whole family were subjected to the intervention.

In total, 763 individuals lost weight half of 11.2 kilograms per person.

2 .- Guide proportions. Concentrate on the entrees that are balanced with vegetables and meat as soups, stews or sauteed. To make lighter heavy stews with meat or chicken with rice or pasta servile rather than alone and, especially, in small quantities, the ideal is 120 grams of protein for women and 160 men.

3 .- Use methods of cooking low-fat. Use special containers for preparing baked, broiled, roasted, steamed, boiled or browned in the oven, always avoid frying or sauteing, if this is the case, change the vegetable oil for olive oil. (more…)

Why sleep disorders affect our body weight

More and more studies associate the weight gain to sleep loss. Experts recommend that adults sleep between 7 and 9 hours per night to stabilize a healthy body weight. Why should we sleep to maintain a healthy weight? One theory is that lack of sleep disrupts hormones such as leptin and insulin, that regulate appetite and body weight. But an appetite that goes awry and benchmarks to manage the weight disappear, it can grow.

Another scientific explanation suggests that deprivation of sleep leaves us too tired to exercise. Moreover, as lack of sleep can disturb our mood (making us uncomfortable or irritable for example), we tend to look to food for our spirits up. We eat when our emotions, without being able to control our portions, and this can cause weight gain.
